Why the fix was a reset, not another key
The warning was not caused by a failed part but by what had been added before: an aftermarket key the system did not accept properly. Adding one more key on top would not have cleared it, so every stored key was deleted and the car was given two original Mazda smart keys from a clean start.
That also met the owner’s actual deadline: a leased car has to go back with no warning lights and the right number of keys.
