Auto Locksmith Royton – Car Keys, Diagnostics & Remapping
OL2 covers the northern towns of the Borough of Oldham: Royton, Shaw, Crompton, High Crompton and Heyside, running up towards Crompton Moor and the M62. It is higher and more exposed than central Oldham, so cold, wet mornings cause a lot of key and lock trouble here. Autobahn covers the whole district, day and night, with no call-out charge.

Higher ground, harder mornings
OL2 climbs from Royton towards Shaw and Crompton Moor, and those streets get colder and wetter than the valley. Cold is hard on key fob batteries and on door locks, so winter brings a run of calls: fobs that stop responding, locks that will not turn, and keys forced until they snap.
It is also a commuter area. The Shaw and Crompton Metrolink stop and the roads to the M62 and the A627(M) carry people to Manchester and Rochdale, and cars left all day at park-and-ride sites bring their own lockouts and lost keys.
The streets themselves are mostly stone and brick terraces with on-street parking, many on slopes. That affects where a car can be worked on safely, so tell us about the slope and the parking when you call.

A frozen lock or a flat fob: what not to do
On a cold morning the two problems look alike: the car will not open. They are not the same, and dealing with them the wrong way makes things worse.
If the remote gets no response at all, the fob battery is the usual suspect, and the blade hidden inside the fob will open the driver’s door. If the blade goes into the lock but will not turn, the lock mechanism is likely frozen or seized. Forcing it is exactly how keys snap inside locks, and getting a broken blade out of a lock is a bigger job than dealing with the frozen lock.
Do not pour hot water over a lock or a door seal: it refreezes, and on glass it can crack the window. A de-icer made for locks, or warming the key blade gently, is safer. If the door opens but the seal is frozen to the frame, pulling hard can tear the seal. If the lock still will not turn, call before it breaks.
- No response to the remote: use the blade inside the fob.
- Blade will not turn: stop, and do not force it.
- Never use boiling water on locks, seals or glass.
- Key snapped or lock seized: call with the registration.

Royton, Shaw and Crompton questions
Is Shaw covered, or only Royton?
Both. This page covers the whole OL2 postcode district: Royton, Shaw, Crompton, High Crompton and Heyside.
My key snapped in the door lock. Can you get it out without damaging the lock?
Broken blades can usually be extracted using the right tools, and the lock is then checked before a replacement key is made or the original is repaired. Do not keep trying the broken piece, as that pushes the blade further in.
Do you come out in bad weather?
Yes, 24 hours a day. Tell us if the car is on an icy slope or somewhere exposed, so the work can be done safely.
