Car Lockout Manchester – Damage-Free Vehicle Entry
If your keys are shut inside the vehicle, you need entry rather than a new key — and that is one of the smaller jobs an auto locksmith does. Autobahn opens cars and vans without damaging the door, lock or glass, across Manchester and Greater Manchester.
Call 07303 123222 or message on WhatsApp with your registration and where the vehicle is.
Before you call anyone, check three things
- Is a second key accessible? Someone bringing a spare is faster and cheaper than any call-out.
- Is a door or the boot genuinely unlocked? It sounds obvious, and it is worth thirty seconds.
- Does your insurance or breakdown cover include lockouts? Some policies do, and it is worth knowing before you pay.
If none of those help, that is the point to call. What you should not do is start improvising with a coat hanger — most modern door cards, seals and wiring looms are easily damaged, and the repair costs more than the opening would have.
How the vehicle gets opened
The method depends on the vehicle. Some are opened through the lock itself, others by carefully creating enough space to reach an internal control without deforming the door frame. Which approach is appropriate depends on the model, the lock type and whether the vehicle has deadlocking engaged.
What stays constant is the intention: the car should be exactly as it was, minus the problem.
When it turns out not to be a lockout
Occasionally what looks like a lockout is something else, and it is worth knowing the difference before booking.
- Key inside, car locked
- A lockout. Entry only.
- Key lost entirely
- Key replacement, or all keys lost if no key remains.
- Remote not responding
- Often a battery or a remote that has lost sync — see car key repair before assuming the worst.
- Key turns but will not start
- Not a lockout at all. Usually an immobiliser or transponder fault.
- Key snapped in the lock
- Broken key extraction, then a decision about whether the key can be salvaged.
Common questions
Will opening the car damage it?
It should not. Opening a modern vehicle without its key is a skilled, non-destructive job when done with the right tools — the aim is to leave no trace that anything happened.
Damage comes from improvised attempts: coat hangers bent into the door seal, wedges driven too far, or drilling a lock that did not need drilling.
The keys are locked in and the engine is running. Can you still help?
Yes, and it is worth saying so when you call. It happens more often than people expect, particularly with keyless vehicles left running while someone steps out.
My child or pet is shut inside the car.
Call 999 first. This stops being a locksmith job and becomes an emergency, and the fire service will attend far faster than any mobile service can.
Call us afterwards if the vehicle still needs opening or a lock needs putting right.
Is a lockout the same as losing your keys?
No, and the difference matters to what it costs. A lockout means the key exists and is simply out of reach, so only entry is needed.
If the key is genuinely gone, that becomes key replacement or all keys lost, which is a considerably larger job.
