Why fleet work is done in one visit

Fleet key work is about downtime rather than a single key. Dealing with several vehicles on the same day, rather than booking each car separately, gets more of the fleet earning again sooner. The post records both kinds of job: spare keys and vehicles with no key at all.

Background: spare keys and all-keys-lost on fleet vehicles

The points below are general information about this kind of job. They explain the work; they are not additional details about this particular vehicle.

Adding a spare while a working key still exists is usually the simpler job, because the car’s immobiliser can often be accessed with the working key present. When every key has gone, the key has to be created and coded to the car from scratch, which is the bigger job on most vehicles.

For operators, keeping at least two coded keys per vehicle, and a record of who holds them, turns an all-keys-lost emergency into a planned spare-key job.

To keep this record accurate, the following are not published because the original post does not state them: the Toyota models, how many vehicles were worked on, which vehicles had no key, and the operator’s name.
