VW Golf GTD: Only Key Dead, NEC35xx Cluster Read on the Bench
The owner of a Volkswagen Golf GTD had one key, and it went completely dead, so the car had no working key. The car has a locked NEC35xx Continental instrument cluster with a virtual cockpit, so Autobahn removed the cluster, read its MCU on the bench, generated a dealer key from the immobiliser data and learned it to the car.

Why this needed bench work
On this Golf, the immobiliser data sits in a security-protected NEC35xx cluster. It cannot simply be read through the diagnostic socket, so the cluster was removed and read on the bench, which is the careful route that avoids data loss.
Because there was no working key, this was in practice an all-keys-lost job, even though the key itself was still in the owner’s hand.
Background: MQB and NEC35xx clusters
The points below are general information about this kind of job. They explain the work; they are not additional details about this particular vehicle.
On many MQB-platform Volkswagen Group cars the cluster is part of the immobiliser. When no working key exists, the key data has to be recovered from it, and some cluster types need that done on the bench.

To keep this record accurate, the following are not published because neither the original post nor Autobahn’s job notes state them: the model year.
